Saying Goodbye

Saying Goodbye

Since we returned from the islands, we have been entirely consumed with the logistical nightmare we created for ourselves. It’s much harder turning the page on this next chapter than it was to move onto the boat in the first place.

In case you missed it, we recently shared our big and exciting plans to sell the boat with the ultimate goal to buy property in the islands!

Why Not?
Our six-month Bahamas adventure has come to a bittersweet end. We had a relatively uneventful crossing. There were quite a few storms to dodge on the bank and some unsettled seas entering the Gulf Stream, but we made it safely from Great Sale to Fort Pierce. As soon as we

Earlier this week, we officially handed over Escapist to her new owner.

There have been so many emotions attached to this decision and there’s so much to reflect on from the last few years. We feel like entirely different people.

When we started this journey, we committed to the boat for at least a year. Nearly three years later, this experience was more than we ever could have imagined.

Boat life was the ultimate bucket list adventure. Did everything go as planned? Of course not. Do we have regrets? Absolutely zero!

It’s so much harder to turn your life upside down for a dream than settle for the status quo. All things considered it was 100% worth it and we’re so proud we did it.

We won’t be sailing full-time but we will very much be continuing on the same path. We’ll likely never give up this freedom we created by letting go of the materials and things we’re supposed to chase. We’re still seeking new experiences and challenges, absorbing all that we can from this little life.

If a boat life opportunity presents itself again in the future, we’ll be all-in!

Since Escapist is no longer our floating home, we thought it’d be appropriate to give this little blog and social media channel a new identity.

We’re creating a whole new life for ourselves. Even without physical sails, we’re continuing to look for unique ways to push forward, continuing the adventure, mindset and connection to the water with “vela nova”, or “new sails”.

We’re excited to introduce Creating Vela Nova.

While we won’t physically be on a sailboat any longer, our new sails are the drive to keep this momentum going. We’re taking everything we learned from boat life and compounding it. We don’t want a fancy or complex life, but a life that’s simple and intentional.

Creating a life in a new country won’t be easy. It’s going to take time and definitely won’t unfold as we expect it to. And, that’s okay.

It takes a certain kind of madness to go all in on a goal. Some will say we’re delusional. I’d argue we’re conscious and action oriented. Life is far too short to settle, and growth doesn’t live in comfort. We have to do hard things.

Pro tip: life gets better when you realize there’s no such thing as a wrong decision. Every choice you make leads you to exactly where you’re meant to be.
